Hometown Hero Fighting for Championship Lead at Sepang
Alex Yoong is hometown hero this weekend as the Audi R8 LMS Cup heads to Sepang for round 3.

The double LMS Cup champion arrives in Malaysia with a fresh win under his belt from the last round, and no success ballast for Race 1, meaning that Alex has a very high chance of kicking off his Malaysian campaign with a solid win in front of his home crowd.
“Racing at home is always amazing,” says Alex. “Having had to race a lot of my career overseas make me never take for granted the very special privilege to race in front of those I love and respect.”
Alex is currently second in the championship standings, only 3 points behind the leader. Does this, coupled with the fact he will have lots of fans, family and friends at the track add more pressure than usual? “I love pressure, I welcome and embrace it. That’s how you deal with it.”
With his first win of the season last round in Thailand, Alex is determined to stamp his authority in the first race on Sunday: “First race will be key. It’s very important to not carry weight into the next race, so like in Thailand I’m will to take extra risks to win it.”

There is a new crew at the Audi TEDA Racing Team, and there were some small issues in the first two rounds. Alex is confident that the team has fixed all the issues and that their focus is extra hard this weekend. “It’s a brand new team so a couple of teething issues were to be expected. However this championship is so close we can’t afford any mistakes from anyone including me, if we are to win again.”
It’s certainly going to be a big weekend for the hometown hero, and with the team getting to top form and Alex with that important first win under his belt, all the ingredients are there for another successful Sepang race weekend: “We’re all getting better, including myself, so I’m confident of another good weekend.”
Race 1 of the Audi R8 LMS Cup starts at 11:00 on Sunday, with race 2 commencing at 16:00 at the Sepang International Circuit. Also racing this weekend is the Lamborghini Super Trofeo and Formula Masters China Series. Grandstand entry is free.
